Lighting Assessment 
 
In my opinion, lighting is the number one factor that will influence your plant's sucess or failure. Too much or not enough - this depends on the direction your windows face and what type of plants you have. Some hoyas love to be in full south facing sun, while others will bleach and scorch with such harsh sunlight. 
 
The concept of "Bright/Indirect" lighting is not well understood; many folks think that because you have a lot of windows and the room is bright, the plants are receiving bright/indirect light. This is false!! With Bright/Indirect, you still want at least a couple hours of direct sunlight per day where the light will hit your plants. 
 
I can help you assess all your windows and provide advice on placement and supplementation. Supplementing with grow lights and timers is simpler than you may think, and can seamlessly blend into modern decor. 
 
Pest Advice 
 
Aphids, thrips, spider mites, mealy bugs, fungus gnats and springtails. I can help you assess what kind of creatures are living in your plants, determine whether they are harmful, and provide a course of action to treat if necessary. 
 
You may think your home is pest free, but they can easily sneak in during the spring, summer and fall months - especially if you have pets or children that spend a lot of time outdoors! I've personally found thrips on my clothing after spending a short period outside in the garden. 
 
Learn how to spot pests and how to maintain a collection with pest outbreaks. It's impossible to completely avoid them - but with proper care and maintenance you can spot them early and effectively treat. 
 
General Plant Care Advice 
 
I offer tailored advice on watering, soil types, potting techniques, and fertilization schedules to keep your plants thriving. Overwatering is the most common mistake I see, but I can guide you on how to read your plant’s signals and create a care routine that fits your lifestyle. From dry rot to wet rot to fungal problems and more, I can help assess why some plants may be struggling and how to bring them back to life. 
 
Propagation Advice
 
Want to multiply your plant collection or share your favorites with friends? I can teach you the art of propagation, from stem cuttings and leaf propagation to air layering and division. Each plant species has its quirks, and I’ll walk you through the best methods for success, including ideal timing, tools, and aftercare. 
 
Building a Bioactive Vivarium 
 
Want to take your plant hobby to the next level - or provide the best possible environment for your reptiles and ambhibians? Bioactive vivariums are a mostly self-sustaining ecosystem that combines plants and microfauna (known as the clean up crew!). I can guide you through the process of designing and maintaining a vivarium, from selecting compatible plants and substrates to introducing beneficial organisms like springtails and isopods. Whether you’re creating a tropical jungle for a dart frog or a desert scene for a bearded dragon, I’ll help you build a low-maintenance, naturalistic arid or tropical habitat that’s as beautiful as it is functional.
